Flow - Portugal

You might know that I love to capture night sky near a coastline. I traveled to Portugal to capture the beauty of night sky and the Atlantic Ocean. I was blown away by all of the little gems and beautiful seascape views in Portugal. This picture was captured near Telheiro a small beach. I spent my days searching for possible locations to capture and I found a location with the foreground rocks. I went back to this location when it was dark. I knew that the tide might affect the landscape and it certainly did. The view was different, but luckily I found a spot to capture.

I used my Vision of Depth technique, to capture the scenery. Longer exposure for the foreground and 25 second's for the Milky Way. I also brought my new lens Sigma 20 mm f/1.4 ART with me to capture the sky. This lens is a beast!

Exif & Equipment

Nikon D810, Sigma 20 mm f/1.4 ART, RRS Tripod and Hähnel Gigapro II remote controller.
Sky: ISO 6400, f/1.8, 25 sec. tilting the camera upwards.
Foreground: ISO 2000, f/4.0, 7-minute exposure tilting the camera downwards.

Post-processing

Color and contrast edit in Lightroom and opened the images in Photoshop as Smart Objects and copied the landscape to the same file as the sky. Once both images are in the same file, expanded the canvas with the crop tool. Masked the meeting point of the views. Saved file and went back to Lightroom, and used a Phase Preset (Contrast - Light) to give it an overall look.

Photography for the New Nokia SmartPhone

I'm proud to see one of my pictures selected as the new Nokia smartphone default background! You may have seen it in various places. There is an addition of another of my images in the catalog of the phones backgrounds. The mobilephone actually sold out in a minute in China!

Here is a view of the phone and picture.

Way Of Light

Driving around Western Finland in pitch black night I found myself looking at train tracks to the horizon. Focusing on getting the settings perfect while the train sounds were breaking the silence of the night. It was a feeling to remember. While I was nowhere near the upcoming train, the moment certainly made my heart rate go up. Be safe out there, don't do anything stupid.

I hope the image conveys the feeling I had in that specific moment.

Exif & Equipment

Nikon D810, Nikkor 14-24 mm f/2.8, Sirui Tripod & Ballhead
Two horizontal photographs with settings: ISO 6400, 2.8, 30 sec. 14 mm.

Post-Processing

I used Lightrooms built-in panorama function to stitch the two images together. I edited the colors with Phase Preset: Hazy Night and edited the basic settings. I also enhanced the Milky Way in Photoshop with my Fine Art Action: Enhance Stars.

The Show

Last week I was photographing with Konsta Punkka (@kpunkka) and Juuso Hämäläinen (@juusohd). We had an amazing experience after a long beautiful summer day in Kasnäs, Finland. The clouds drifted away from the mainland and were greeted with a grandiose display of stars and storm clouds. I used two vertical exposures to capture the field of view. I, of course, took several photographs of the scenery, but these two were the ones I used to create the final image. The lightning was so intense that it made the foreground look like it would have been shorter exposure.

Equipment & Exif

Nikon D810, Nikkor 14-24 mm f/2.8, Manfrotto Tripod
Two vertical shots: f/2.8, ISO 1250, 22 mm & 20 sec

Post-processing

Photoshop CC for stitching the images together, Lightroom CC for color editing Phase Preset: Vintage Early Morning and details with Saga Preset: Enhance Stars.

Summer Morning Dream

Even though I love to capture the stars and the Milky Way, I love summer mornings. In Finland, summer is so bright that you can't see the Milky Way. I have been photographing mostly on summer mornings and nights recently, and I found that they are full of mystery and beauty. Mist crawling to a field to create a beautiful isolated feeling. I captured this picture a few days ago after photographing the whole night. After a couple of rainy days, the sun made an appearance on this beautiful sunrise. This image was captured in Kerava, Finland. I placed my camera on the tripod and used the camera's self-timer and ran to the scenery.

Equipment & Exif

ISO 100, 1/100, 14 mm @ f/2.8
