Descent

After the bright summer nights, I'm excited that the astrophotography season has started in Finland. A couple of weeks ago I made a trip to Emäsalo, Finland. It's one of my favorite seascape places in Finland. I ended up going there four nights in a row to capture some time-lapse footage and still images.

There are not many places in Finland where you can view to the sea without being on someone's private property. Which is a shame. So this place is rather unique. Standing there is a calming experience when the only noises you could hear are the subtle wind and crashing waves. I placed my camera low and set the self-timer to 20 seconds so I had time to walk to the frame and stand there for 30 seconds. Luckily I also captured a satellite in the frame which gave the image nice balanced look.

The Lost World

New work created using my Lightroom Presets (Phase Collection) and a couple of my photographs. I had this work sitting on my computer for a long time, somehow I felt that now was the perfect time to share it. I hope you enjoy my new work!

Exif & Equipment:

Nikon D800, Nikon 14 - 24 mm f/2.8 & Sirui Tripod R-4203L and K-40X
The Sky: 30 sec, ISO 6400, f/2.8
The Shipwreck: 30 sec, ISO 800, f/4.0
The Foreground: 30 sec, ISO 6400, f/2.8

Editing:

First I imported all of the files in Lightroom and applied a Phase Preset (Balanced - Base). After I had adjusted the colors, I opened the photographs in Photoshop. I masked the pictures to create the final peace. Once ready I applied another Phase Preset (Hazy Night) in Lightroom to give the image atmospheric final look.

Glowing Light

I captured this on the same night as my previous photograph. The Northern Lights were the strongest on this night when I captured this one. The silence and reflected green light made this an extraordinary moment. Sometimes you are in awe of nature, and this was one of those moments. I hope you enjoy the photograph, as much as I enjoyed being there.

Equipment & Exif

Nikon D800, Samyang 14 mm f/2.8 & Sirui Tripod R-4203L and K-40X
