Lonely Tree - A beautiful day on the coast of Finland

For the past couple of weeks, I have been photographing all over Southern Finland. Last week I visited Emäsalo, Finland for the first time this winter and it sure was a beautiful day. I captured one of my favorite trees there while it was snowing and ice was gathering on the shore.

I couldn't believe that I had the place all to myself the whole time I was there. It is undoubtedly a hard place to walk when there are snow and ice covered rocks. Nevertheless, I had fun time photographing there. Here is my favorite shot from that day.

Flow - Portugal

You might know that I love to capture night sky near a coastline. I traveled to Portugal to capture the beauty of night sky and the Atlantic Ocean. I was blown away by all of the little gems and beautiful seascape views in Portugal. This picture was captured near Telheiro a small beach. I spent my days searching for possible locations to capture and I found a location with the foreground rocks. I went back to this location when it was dark. I knew that the tide might affect the landscape and it certainly did. The view was different, but luckily I found a spot to capture.

I used my Vision of Depth technique, to capture the scenery. Longer exposure for the foreground and 25 second's for the Milky Way. I also brought my new lens Sigma 20 mm f/1.4 ART with me to capture the sky. This lens is a beast!

Exif & Equipment

Nikon D810, Sigma 20 mm f/1.4 ART, RRS Tripod and Hähnel Gigapro II remote controller.
Sky: ISO 6400, f/1.8, 25 sec. tilting the camera upwards.
Foreground: ISO 2000, f/4.0, 7-minute exposure tilting the camera downwards.

Post-processing

Color and contrast edit in Lightroom and opened the images in Photoshop as Smart Objects and copied the landscape to the same file as the sky. Once both images are in the same file, expanded the canvas with the crop tool. Masked the meeting point of the views. Saved file and went back to Lightroom, and used a Phase Preset (Contrast - Light) to give it an overall look.

The Whole Universe Surrenders

Finally new work from just couple of days ago. I used two exposures to create this surreal effect. Remember to visit my exhibition Atmosphere open through 14th January to 8th of February 2015 in Pohjanmaan valokuvakeskus, Lapua.

I was inspired to title my image by this quote "To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders." - Lao Tzu.

Equipment & Exif

Nikon D800, Nikon 16-35 mm f/4.0 VR & Sirui Tripod R-4203L and Sirui Ball Head K-40X

For the sky: 30 sec, f/4.0 ISO 3200 @ 16 mm
For the foreground: 445 seconds, f/9.0, ISO 100 @ 16 mm

Arctic Symphony

A beautiful evening at the coast of Finland. I loved how the mist made the horizon disappear.
These moments are really those what I search for when I go out and take photos.

Silent Elegance

It was freezing cold in Emäsalo, Finland yesterday evening. Just when the sun had set I saw this beautiful frost covered rock in the sea. I had the 10 stop B&W ND -filter on and set the exposure to 90 sec. Hope you like it.
